Doha has developed within just a few decades from a traditional pearl-diving and fishing settlement into a modern international metropolis. Major infrastructure projects connected with the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Expo 2023 Doha significantly transformed the city. Today, modern architecture, museums, the Corniche, new urban districts and an extensive metro system shape Qatar's capital.
Doha is highly international, with people from many countries living and working in the city. This diversity is particularly visible in its restaurants, hotels and cultural offerings.
Qatar National Day is celebrated every year on December 18 and is accompanied by events throughout the country.
